Making an Appointment
The first step is to contact Dr. Goodman at (805) 473-3388 or by e-mail at anxietytreatment@coastalcenter.org.
Dr. Goodman will ask you about your anxiety problem to see if an evaluation should be scheduled. Sometimes a medical evaluation should be completed prior to the evaluation.
Once the appointment has been made, go to www.coastalcenter.org/forms to download the intake materials.
Fill out the intake materials and bring them to Dr. Goodman when you come for the initial evaluation.
Dr. Goodman will review the intake materials and ask you A LOT of questions during the evaluation to determine the best course of action.
People with active bipolar disorder, psychosis, suicidal ideation, addictions, or who are experiencing a crisis unrelated to their anxiety disorder need to receive treatment for these conditions elsewhere prior to anxiety treatment.
CBT anxiety treatment is for people who are motivated to face their fears and actually invest in some initial discomfort in order to have a more comfortable future (no pain, no gain).
Dr. Goodman is available to consult with family members of non-clients regarding parenting children (and adult children) who have anxiety disorders. If a family member is unmotivated to get help, parents can still learn to decrease their “accommodation” of their child’s anxiety and set up incentives designed to enhance motivation.
